JANE CLARK CHERMAYEFF

Jane Clark Chermayeff founded her firm (Jane Clark Chermayeff & Associates) to focus on visitor-centered exhibitions and creative environments for learning. An educator and exhibition developer, Jane held positions at the Smithsonian Institution's Traveling Exhibition Service, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Smithsonian's Design Museum, where she was the first Director of Education. With Jane Clark Chermayeff & Associates LLC, she has developed an international portfolio and noted expertise making complex subjects accessible to diverse audiences through multimedia exhibits and programs.

JCC&A projects include: The Science Playground at the New York Hall of Science, master plans for the National Parks of New York Harbor and the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt National Historic Sites in Hyde Park, and visitor centers and nature reserves for the Fideicomiso de Conservación de Puerto Rico.

Jane was awarded the Japan Foundation Fellowship and the Doing Art Together Award for her contributions to arts education in New York City. She lectures frequently on interpreting cultural landscapes and has written, coauthored, and edited articles and books, including “Kids at Work: Looking and Listening at Science Playgrounds,” the original Kids Culture Catalogue, The Design Necessity, and The Neighborhood Conservation Source Book.
