BARBARA MEYERSON

Barbara Meyerson, Principal of B. Meyerson Consulting, LLC, has over thirty-five years of experience in service to museums. As the founding Director of the Arizona Museum for Youth, she was responsible for the design, development, implementation and administration of a unique art museum for children and families. Barbara provided oversight for several capital expansions which eventually transformed this original facility into a three building campus devoted to inspiring all of its visitors.

As a museum consultant, Barbara specializes in interpreting museum environments for children and families. Her clients have included a variety of museums, zoos, children’s hospitals, and botanical gardens in the areas of exhibit design and program creation, staff training and development, governance(public, private and hybrid), and team building. She has recently co-authored a book designed to engage children and their families in museums, and other cultural venues. Her experiences continue to inspire museum docents and staff, and she has lectured on the subject of family learning and engagement in museum environments at museums and universities throughout the world.

Barbara began her museum career at the age of twelve, as the first Junior Aide volunteer at the Brooklyn Museum in New York. More recently, she served as the President of the Association of Children’s Museums and as a board member of both the American Association of Museums and Hands On!, a consortium of international children’s museums.

Barbara has taught Museum Administration at Arizona State University and is currently serving on the Board of the Chandler (Arizona) Cultural Foundation. She is presently serving as Interim Director of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
