LESLIE BEDFORD
Leslie Bedford, a senior manager, exhibition developer, and teacher of adult professionals, helps organizations imagine and design successful exhibitions and educational resources for new audiences. She works with institutional insiders and outsiders to clarify the vision, define the experience, articulate the right ideas, and develop the requisite skills and habits of thought. The result is new standards of excellence for both staff and programs.
Selected recent projects include:
Working with Facing History and Ourselves to create Choosing to Participate, an award-winning traveling exhibition that vastly expanded this educational organization’s national outreach. A new component with a global focus opened in 2007.
Co-facilitating two years of in-service training designed to turn selected Philadelphia-area history museum staff into expert exhibition developers.
Helping the Dutchess County Historical Society and Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum implement their new partnership for innovative family programming.
Managing and mentoring the cross-divisional team at the American Museum of Natural History charged with creating a new Family Discovery Center.
Leslie’s commitment to continuous organizational learning reflects her rich staff experience at the Boston Children’s Museum and Brooklyn Historical Society, eight years as a senior consultant, and six years as director of the Leadership in Museum Education Program at Bank Street College. She is completing a doctorate in museum studies with a specialization in exhibition development and imaginative thinking, a topic on which she has published and spoken often. |
