DARYL K. FISCHER

Daryl Fischer is principal of MUSYNERGY, a consulting firm that provides interpretive planning, exhibition development, audience research, strategic planning, and board development services. Whatever the project, she helps her clients draw together the expertise of staff members, the leadership of board members, the energy of volunteers, and the life experiences of visitors to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The effectiveness of this process has been proven in all types and sizes of museums—from the Detroit Institute of Arts to the Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve, from the Yale University Art Gallery to the University of Michigan Exhibit Museum.

A skilled facilitator, Daryl uses her team-building experience to draw out individual perspectives and integrate them in a collective vision as projects evolve from conception through completion. The Morton Arboretum, the High Museum of Art, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Hunter Museum of American Art are among the clients that have relied on teamwork to create successful exhibits, interactive experiences, and building projects.

Daryl began her museum career at the Denver Art Museum in 1980. Working under the leadership of Patterson Williams, she learned lessons she’s never forgotten about the value of the team approach, innovation and experimentation, audience advocacy, and helping visitors to create their own meaning from museum experiences. She went on to lead education departments at the Muskegon Museum of Art and the Indianapolis Museum of Art before founding MUSYNERGY in 1993. An active player in the museum profession, Daryl currently serves as Vice President of Organizational Development for the Visitor Studies Association and Vice President of The Museum Group.
