LAURA B. ROBERTS
Laura B. Roberts, principal of Roberts Consulting, believes that cultural nonprofit organizations are among a community’s most valuable assets. She helps them create compelling and exciting strategic plans and develop strong organizations capable of implementing those plans. Her goal is to help organizations, regardless of their size, be valued public assets, relevant to their communities’ needs and challenges.
Recent projects include:

Guiding the Indiana Historical Society, the largest membership-supported historical society in the nation, toward a new mission that captures their commitment to involving new audiences and using new interpretive strategies — "Indiana's storyteller, connecting people to the past" — and a plan to achieve that mission.

Working with Winterthur Museum and Country Estate to consider programmatic and management options for the historic properties in the village of Odessa, operated by Winterthur for 40 years. The complex reopened in 2005 as Historic Odessa, under local management and governance.

Helping the New England Aquarium successfully prepare for accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and re-accreditation by the American Association of Museums.
Laura also teaches graduate students at Tufts University and Bank Street College. For six years, she was executive director of the New England Museum Association, and for 14 years she was an educator in history museums. She is also the former executive director of the Boston Center for Adult Education. She currently serves as the chair of the Tufts University Art Gallery Advisory Board, vice chair of the board of First Night Boston, treasurer of the board of the Institute for Learning Innovation and co-chair of the Independent Museum Professionals affinity group of the New England Museum Association. Prior board service includes the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities (past president), WGBH Community Advisory Board, MIT Museum, and AAM Education Committee. |
